Where does Graham Turner stand in the pantheon of Wolves managers? 40 years on from his arrival at Molineux, his work endures to this day

There were tough moments for Graham Turner at the bookends of his Molineux career but the work that went on in between secured a legacy that survives to this day. Wolves had just come out of a second administration in four years when the 1986/87 season began. As such, there had been little time for new directors Dick Homden and Jack Harris to put any planning in place for the season, after Sammy Chapman had departed following a third successive relegation in May that year.
A 32-year-old Brian Little was put in temporary charge for the club’s first ever Fourth Division campaign, with coaching support from long-serving full-back Geoff Palmer, and West Bromwich Albion stalwart Ally Robertson helping out on the pitch. Little was surprised to find his services withdrawn after a 2-0 win away Scunthorpe, with four wins, four defeats and a draw from the opening nine games offering an encouraging start after three seasons of struggles.
