With the first few weeks now behind us, it is time to assess the individuals on the pitch and their contributions so far…
Jose Sa - 7/10
Sa was certainly a figure who was not expected to be hanging around the Black Country this season, but the Portuguese shot-stopper has had a relatively steady start to the campaign and has provided the reliability you want from a goalkeeper with his experience.
An area where Sa needs to develop is commanding his penalty area, specifically the six-yard box. Without VAR, Sa is increasingly reliant on the officials recognising if he is being blocked or prevented from reaching the ball. It was, therefore, refreshing to see referee Josh Smith clamp down on the issue in the recent Black Country derby, but both the player and Cesar Peixoto have been concerned with this area of the goalkeeper’s game.
