Sometimes football has a unique way of delivering the perfect story. For Wolverhampton-born Rhys Walters, Friday night’s return home is exactly that.

The opening game of the 2026/27 season holds an incredible amount of sentiment for the Port Vale midfielder. An opportunity to play in his home town, inside a stadium which will be full of all those who know him personally, from immediate family to former school teachers and many more who helped craft his journey.

“I’m a bit speechless to be fair,” Walters tells The Wanderers Post. “Obviously to play in my home town in front of all my family and friends, you can’t ask for much more as a footballer. It’s going to be a hell of an experience and I just can’t wait to get out there and play.”
