Wolverhampton Wanderers Head Coach Cesar Peixoto celebrates win with fans after the EFL Sky Bet Championship match between Wolverhampton Wanderers and West Bromwich Albion at Molineux, Wolverhampton, UK on 20 September 2026.

Cesar Peixoto content with Wolves’ strong start to the Championship season but still searching for improvements.

Wolves’ head coach can reflect on an impressive opening few weeks to life in English football as his squad looks to return from the international break and build on their recent work.

The Portuguese coach arrived as an unknown quantity at Molineux, with the challenge of rebuilding a Wolves side relegated from the Premier League, while introducing his own identity and ideas to a squad which endured a difficult campaign.

Wolves have four wins, two draws and one defeat, against promotion rivals West Ham United, giving Peixoto 14 points from a possible 21. That two points a game ratio comes with 15 goals scored and ten conceded.

That record places Peixoto’s early Championship return way above the points-per-game figures recorded in recent times by Wolves managers in the Premier League. The struggles in the top division under Vitor Pereira (1.24 points per game across 38 fixtures), Gary O’Neil (1.13 from 63), Julen Lopetegui (1.30 from 27) and Bruno Lage (1.29 from 51) were hardly surprising given the resources and the higher league.
