It was important for new head coach Cesar Peixoto to get his Wolves tenure off on the right foot and he has done just that. Friday night’s opener against Port Vale in the Carabao Cup offered the opportunity to build on an encouraging pre-season and give supporters an early glimpse of his plans, ahead of next week’s Championship start.
Wolves were never going to take this game lightly, regardless of the obvious deficiencies in their League Two opponents, and after a couple of early scares the nerves were eased when Adam Armstrong put Wolves in front after 13 minutes.
Thereafter, lengthy spells of possession allowed Wolves to build with patience and two further goals before half-time from Andre and Fer Lopez secured the result.
