Wolves are trying to off-load some players from a huge first team squad before they make the necessary recruitments to give new head coach Cesar Peixoto the best opportunity in the Championship. It is proving tougher than they would have liked and may lead to difficulties down the line unless moves materialise soon.
Indicative of this is the goalkeeper situation, where there are two established keepers with vast experience on big contracts, neither of whom are in the current team. A third – Daniel Bentley – has started the season but is not Peixoto’s choice, and the head coach has indicated he wants to bring in a stronger option. Yet, unless Jose Sa and Sam Johnstone can be moved on, this is unlikely to happen. Both would have to leave in cut-price deals but there is no ready taker for the wages they are on.
