The odes to the watching Ruben Neves and Raul Jimenez belted out from the South Bank took supporters back to happier times, but this was a day that showed there can be a very bright future this season.
The watching heroes cannot fail to have been impressed with an outstanding display of high energy, attacking football that left Albion with no answers. Only some phenomenal saves from goalkeeper Max O’Leary in the first half maintained parity, and although the manner of Fer Lopez’s winner had an element of self-destruct about it from the visitors’ defence, it was the very least Cesar Peixoto’s side deserved.
