By Adam Armstrong’s standards, especially at this level, he will have known his bleak run in front of goal was not good enough. But there is a light at the end of the tunnel after his winner against Watford on Saturday.

“I just saw a narrow gap but I knew I had a chance to score and I was in the right area so luckily for me it went into the back of the net,” a relieved match-winner said. “I thought we started excellently. We were really good and on another day it would have been two, three, even four goals after the chances we created.

“I think it gives you confidence in games when you start so fast. If you’re not in the right place at the right time you don’t get those goals but luckily enough I was in the right place to put it in the back of the net.”
