Dan McNamara was left concerned after Wolves Women faced a “reality check” against Bristol City in a 4-2 defeat.

Defeat in the West Country indicative of the step up in level Wolves have faced in the WSL 2

Amber Hughes opened the scoring for Wolves before the hosts struck back through Katie Robinson and went into the break with a two-goal advantage thanks to efforts from Brooke Aspin and Rio Hardy. Marine Dafeur extended that lead before Hughes’ second of the game reduced the deficit.

“You don’t want to come away and lose, of course you don’t,” McNamara said. “You don’t want to concede four goals but I think it’s a reality check of where we are at. After a positive start we got a little bit ahead of ourselves but they are a top side, they are outstanding.

“There were moments in the game we couldn’t get near them, but that’s what you get when you’re chasing promotion into the WSL. I said before the game that the table probably lies in a sense with Bristol City, they’ve had a poor start to the season by their standards and they are starting to find their feet now.
