MATCH ANALYSIS: Wolves’ attacking prowess comes to the fore as Stoke City humbled at Molineux

If the opening league games of the season are anything to go by, then goals will be flowing for the 2026/27 campaign. It was another impressive performance going forward that helped mask some early defensive shortcomings.

One way of addressing any misgivings about the defence is to ensure the attack weighs in with more goals than are conceded at the other end. A double for Rodrigo Gomes, Raul Jimenez on the scoresheet for the second time this season and a first goal for substitute Jordan James. The goal scorers alone tell us everything we need to know about the characteristics of this team which is so enjoying getting on the front foot.

There will be far tighter defences to face this season but, yet again, Wolves showed they have the answers when presented with a problem. After falling behind in sloppy fashion, the response was quick and thereafter Stoke City never really recovered.
