Rodrigo Gomes arrived at Wolves with the reputation of being one of Portugal’s brightest young stars. Yet, questions still clearly remain about whether supporters have seen the player they thought they were getting. Under Cesar Peixoto’s guidance that could finally change.
It can be argued that Gomes’ strengths have never been complemented by the playing environment he has found himself in since arriving in the West Midlands. For the majority of his Wolves career, Gomes has been used as a wing-back, a substitute option or in tactical systems that prioritise defensive structure over attacking transitions.
