There are football transfers, and then there are homecomings. In his first stint in the Black Country, Raul Jimenez became a club icon at Wolves and produced some of the finest football of his career. His return has been welcomed by supporters here and admirers further afield.
“You see players like Lionel Messi and Erling Haaland walking around the pitch before suddenly creating something decisive,” Mexican football journalist Nazario Assad tells The Wanderers Post. “Raul has developed that same understanding of the game. That intelligence was evident during Mexico’s World Cup campaign, where Raul’s influence stretched far beyond his responsibilities on the pitch. Even though he wasn’t the captain, alongside Guillermo Ochoa he was one of the leaders in the dressing room. He was mentoring young forwards like Armando Gonzalez and was one of the players taking the team talks.”
