Cesar Peixoto and John Mousinho clash at full-time on Tuesday evening

COMMENT: Talk Talk. Why managers persist with haranguing match officials during the game

When Cesar Peixoto and John Mousinho went toe to toe at full-time on Tuesday night, it revealed a lack of self-awareness. There is no moral high ground here, all managers are to blame.

“All you do to me is talk talk” sang 80s synth band Talk Talk…sorry…said Wolves head coach Cesar Peixoto to his opposition counterpart after an abysmal Championship encounter on Tuesday night.

The pointless confrontation at full-time of the 1-1 draw against Portsmouth was perhaps a fitting way to end a dire game of football, where neither side can truly look itself in the mirror and claim they deserved to win.

From both managers’ comments at full-time it was clear that Peixoto initiated the argument, when he told John Mousinho that he talked too much in the technical area. Having seen Mousinho’s work close up, Peixoto is probably right but there was nothing to be gained by bringing this to the attention of the Pompey boss.
